Activity Level: Moderate Guides: Meisha - lead, Lindsay - assist Location: Montour Trail near Canonsburg Discover the Montour Trail, the longest suburban rail-trail in the US! It is privately owned and 100% volunteer maintained. A portion of the proceeds from this ride will be donated to the National Tunnel Fundraising Campaign, which is currently fundraising $3 million to repair and re-open the historic National Tunnel. This two-part bike ride showcases a pretty section of the Montour trail. You'll ride beside rocky outcroppings, through a tunnel, over a trestle bridge, and beside a small waterfall. You have two distance options on this ride. Option 1 takes us out-and-back to the National Tunnel. Option 2 combines the first section plus another out-and-back section heading east. Option 1: 4.25 miles, 225 feet of elevation gained - great for anyone starting off or getting back into biking! Option 2: 11 miles, 700 feet of elevation gained - an excellent challenge with so much to see! Bike & helmet rentals are an option on this ride. You may arrange a rental from the Tandem Connection, which is where this ride begins and ends. WAC Biking Safety and Etiquette 1. Helmets are required and must be worn while riding. 2. Eye protection is strongly recommended. (sunglasses or clear safety glasses) 3. Using phones for talking or taking pictures while riding is unsafe and discouraged 4. We ride single file and maintain 1-2 bike lengths between riders. 5. We ride on the right side of the trail and pass on the left. We announce intent to pass with a bell or voicing, "Passing on your left." 6. We use hand signals for turns, braking, and pointing out trail hazards. 7. We attempt to maintain a consistent speed. 💌 Registered participants will receive an email with meeting location, suggested gear, and other pertinent info before the event.
