About the Adventure

Activity Level 4: Strenuous (distance) Guides: Megan-lead, Joe-assistant Location: Freeport, PA This adventure takes us Northeast of Pittsburgh to Butler County. We’ll bike the scenic Butler-Freeport Community Trail snaking along the Little Buffalo Creek for 30 miles, crossing the creek 7 times! Midway through the ride, we'll stop at the quaint Derailleur Cafe for a bite to eat and/or coffee. This rail-trail is a fairly level, natural crushed limestone surface with a gradual uphill grade as it travels north. Thankfully our return is heading south and on the downhill! This is definitely one of our favorite rail-trails because of its beauty and its nice, long downhill on the return. Total distance is 30 miles. Total elevation gain is 800 ft. This outing is limited to 10 riders. If the event is full, email lindsay@womensadventureclubwpa.com to get on the waitlist. Heavy rain cancels the event and you will be fully refunded. WAC Biking Safety and Etiquette 1. Helmets are required and must be worn while riding. 2. Eye protection is strongly recommended. (sunglasses or clear safety glasses) 3. Using phones for talking or taking pictures while riding is unsafe and not permitted. 4. Front and rear lights are recommended. Lights are required for tunnels. (Headlamp is fine.) 5. We ride single file and maintain 1-2 bike lengths between riders. 6. We ride on the right side of the trail and pass on the left. We announce intent to pass with a bell or voicing, "Passing on your left." 7. We use hand signals for turns, braking, and pointing out trail hazards. 8. We attempt to maintain a consistent speed.
