About the Adventure

Activity Level 3: Vigorous Location: Laurel Summit, Somerset Guide: Lindsay This is a fantastic hike! Located atop Laurel Mountain in Forbes State Forest, we'll hike for 11 miles to various points of interest. We'll hike through huge patches of Rhododendron and Mountain Laurel, past vast fields of ferns, and underneath the Hemlocks. We'll stop at Wolf Rocks and take in the 180 degree views looking Northwest toward Ligonier and Southwest toward Donegal. The Autumn colors will be magnificent! We'll have a snack and rest on the rocks for a bit before continuing on to Spruce Flats, a high elevation bog. We'll take in the views of this vast, windswept space. We'll continue on to Beam Rock Overlook, one of the most scenic mountain vistas in the Laurel Highlands. We'll look westward over the treetops toward Somerset, the LHHT trail just below us. Lastly, we'll hike through an area with huge boulders and interesting rock features. This is our fourth annual Rocks to Rocks Hike! The trails are relatively flat, however there are many rocks and exposed roots so mindful footing is important. Hiking shoes with good tread and trekking poles are recommended. Total distance is 11 miles. Elevation gain is 570 feet. There is an option to make this a 7 mile hike. This requires positioning your car at an alternative parking area and a 5 minute ride in my vehicle, arriving at 8:30. The exact meeting location for both the 11 mile hike and the 7 mile hike will be emailed to all hikers a day or two before the outing.

Cancellation Policy

To cancel your registration for an adventure, please make your cancellation at least 48 hours in advance of the outing. To cancel, please send a brief email to lindsay@womensadventureclubwpa.com Cancellations with insufficient notice, no-shows, and late arrivals who have missed the group’s departure are not eligible for a refund. We don't offer credit for future events. Refunds are issued in the form of original payment. If we cancel due to weather, you will receive a full refund. For cancellations involving an outfitter (SUP, rafting, kayaking, etc.) we follow the outfitter's cancellations policy.
