About the Adventure

Activity Level 4: Vigorous Location: NCT Trailhead, Darlington, PA Guides: Abby-lead, Lindsay-sweep The North Country Trail is about 4,800 miles long stretching from North Dakota all the way to the Appalachian Trail in Vermont, including hundreds of miles through Pennsylvania. For this hike, we're going to focus on a section of the NCT that starts in Darlington, PA and then heads towards the Ohio state line to Indian Rock. Indian Rock is a bit of a mystery for the North Country Trail! Throughout the mileage before our destination, the trail has much of the same--trees, some small creeks, elevations gains and losses. As we approach Indian Rock, though, a large cliff appears in the woods. We'll climb our way up switchback trails to the top where we will find a mysteriously carved rock, "Indian Rock," a large rock with deliberately carved shapes. Bring your detective hats and curious minds to hike out and make your best guess as to the purpose or history of the rock. This will be an out and back adventure totaling 9.4 miles with 825 feet of elevation.
