About the Adventure

Activity Level 1: Easy Location: North Park Guides: Joe-lead, Megan-assist Introduction to Hiking This series of hikes has been designed for those who are new to hiking and those who want to learn a little more about what can help to make the hiking experience more rewarding. Sign up for all three or pick and choose the ones that appeal to you. Hike #1: Hiking Basics and Prep This event begins with a class where we'll delve into everything you need to enhance your hiking experience, including insights on footwear, apparel, daypacks, and other must-have essentials. We'll also address topics such as hydration, nutritional requirements, and safety measures. Our aim is to equip you with the knowledge to make your hikes not only more comfortable but also safer and ultimately more rewarding. After the class, we will enjoy an easy loop hike that is 2.6 miles in length and has about 165 feet in elevation gain. During the hike, we will discover some neat things about North Park! Should time be a constraint for you, participation in the hike is entirely optional. This adventure is a blend of hiking and gear instruction meant to help you make informed gear decisions/purchases and prepare you for time on the trails. It's led by Joe, friend of the WAC. Joe has worked in the outdoor industry for a long time and is a gear expert, having worked at REI for many years, and being a self-proclaimed "gear nerd." Megan, WAC guide and hiking enthusiast, is eager to share her favorite hiking tips with you. If you've been wanting to get out for hikes but are feeling unsure about how to prep, what to wear, what to bring, and what to know...Intro to Hiking Hike No. 1 is for you! Event details, including meeting location, suggested gear, and other pertinent info, will be sent via email to registered participants.
