About the Adventure

Intro to Cross-Country/Nordic Skiing Cross-country skiing is a fun, healthy, and exhilarating way to get outside and enjoy the snowy landscape. If you've been wanting to get outside on those skinny skis, but unsure of where to buy or rent, where to go, and what you'll need to get started, this class is for you! In this class, we'll help you answer these questions: 1. What are the different types of cross-country (xc) skiing? 2. Where are the best xc ski locations around Pittsburgh and Western PA? 3. What gear do I need? 4. Where can I rent or buy xc skis? 5. What do I need to know before I invest in a pair of xc skis? 6. What should I wear while xc skiing? What will keep me warm? 7. How do I stay safe while xc skiing? This class is co-taught by Joe Triebsch and Megan Caplan. Joe is an experienced outdoors professional who has guided outings and instructed classes for various Pittsburgh-based outfitters and organizations. Megan is one of our Women's Adventure Club guides and a newer xc ski enthusiast. The class will be held North Park in the room above the Ice Rink. Although this class is hosted by the Women's Adventure Club, this event is open to all genders: men, women, non-binary, and children age 12 and older.
