About the Adventure

Activity Level 2: Moderate Location: Jennings Environmental Center, Slippery Rock PA Guides: Jennings Park Ranger + Lindsay Let's channel our inner Laura Ingalls Wilder and experience Pennsylvania’s only public and protected prairie ecosystem in full bloom. Led by a knowledgeable Park Ranger from Jennings Environmental Education Center, this guided hike will offer insight into the unique ecology of the 20-acre prairie and the rare plant species it supports. Our visit will coincide with the late bloom time that's common for prairie plants. We'll be treated to a spectacular array of color as we begin our hike. We'll look for goldenrod, lady slipper, yellow and white daisies, coneflower, mountain mint, and the stunning blazing star which grows in clusters on four to six-foot stalks. Bring your camera and download your Seek by iNaturalist app. Hiking through the prairie during the golden hours of sunset is sure to delight! Total distance: 2-3 miles Total elevation gain: 175 feet Event details, including meeting location, suggested gear, and other pertinent info will be sent via email to registered participants.
