About the Adventure
Activity Level 3: Strenuous Guide: Meisha Location: South Park, Pittsburgh Meisha is excited to share some fun historical information about South Park on this hike! Our hike will be 6-7 miles in length with several stops to talk about the historical significance of each spot. Our journey will take us to the Oliver Miller Homestead, a Whiskey Rebellion site, with a tour from docents in period dress. We'll also hike beside the Cascades, the Vail of Cashmere, and the old Allegheny County Fairgrounds including the first-of-its-kind Skybus. We'll learn about the tribe of Native Americans who used to live in the park and their Buffalo heard, which is still there. The trails are hilly and there are some areas with roots, so sturdy shoes and trekking poles are recommended. There will be a bailout point halfway through the hike if you prefer a shorter hike. Total distance: 6-7 miles. Elevation gain: 1,400 feet. Price includes Oliver Miller Homestead tour fee.
