About the Adventure

Activity Level 2 or 3: Moderate to Vigorous (depending on chosen distance) Guides: Meisha - lead Location: Freeport, PA This adventure takes us Northeast of Pittsburgh to Butler County.  We’ll bike along the scenic Butler-Freeport Community Trail snaking along the Little Buffalo Creek, crossing the creek several times!  The trail meanders through the trees, offering a peaceful ride free of cars and other motorized vehicles. Choose your distance on this beautiful ride! This trail runs 20 miles between Butler and Freeport, showcasing shale cliffs, towering hemlocks, and creekside views. Two route options are available: Option 1 — 14 miles | 450 ft elevation Option 2 — 20 miles | 600 ft elevation Please note: Bike rentals are not available at this location. This rail-trail is a fairly level, natural crushed limestone surface with a gradual uphill grade as it travels north. Thankfully our return is heading south and on the downhill! This is definitely one of our favorite rail-trails because of its beauty and its nice, long gentle downhill on the return. Limited to 10 riders. If the event is full, email lindsay@womensadventureclubwpa.com to get on the waitlist. Heavy rain cancels the event and you will be fully refunded. WAC Biking Safety and Etiquette 1. Helmets are required and must be worn while riding. 2. Eye protection is strongly recommended. (sunglasses or clear safety glasses) 3. Using phones for talking or taking pictures while riding is unsafe and not permitted. 4. We ride single file and maintain 1-2 bike lengths between riders. 5. We ride on the right side of the trail and pass on the left. We announce intent to pass with a bell or voicing, "Passing on your left." 6. We use hand signals for turns, braking, and pointing out trail hazards. 7. We attempt to maintain a consistent speed. 💌 Registered participants will receive an email with meeting location, suggested gear, and other pertinent info before the event.
