Activity Level 2: Moderate Location: Hillman State Park, Burgettstown Guides: Abby - lead, Lindsay - sweep Better late than never ! We've been trying to make this one happen since January, and now the timing couldn't be more perfect! We'll be surrounded by lush greenery - evergreens and deciduous trees in full spring glory. Hillman State Park Hillman State Park is a quiet and mostly undeveloped state park west of Pittsburgh. The park encompasses some state game lands in addition to hiking trails, mountain bike trails, and a radio-controlled aircraft field! Mountain bikers know some of these trails as a roller coaster and it's not much different when you're hiking! For this hike, we're going to follow along three trails: Switchback, Abby, and Haul. Despite navigating across these three trails, you'll see it's a pretty well marked single track trail. There's not a ton of elevation gain on this trail (375 feet total), but, as the name suggests there are a lot of switchbacks across all three trails so it is a lot of back and forth. The switchbacks guide us through pine groves, dense forested areas, meadows, and more. Because this park is a bit isolated from the city and large roads, it is a quiet traipse through the woods listening to the sounds of nature.
