About the Adventure
Activity Level 1: Easy Location: National Aviary, Pittsburgh Guides: Aviary Educator Team + WAC Guide Abby to join the fun Throughout the summer, the Women's Adventure Club is hosting a "Face Your Fears" series - a chance to get outside, try new things, and tackle our fears. Each event is designed to be fun, supportive, and offer the opportunity to challenge our comfort zones. For this event, we'll be tackling ornithophobia, a fear of birds! Pittsburgh is home to the National Aviary, the only independent indoor nonprofit aviary in the United States. It is also the largest indoor aviary space in the country! The National Aviary is dedicated to conservation of birds and their habitats and to educating the public about these topics. For this adventure, we will meet out front of the Aviary and then head in together for a guided tour of the Aviary. This will give us a chance to learn about the different areas and ecosystems represented in their space, as well as to see live birds living in their respective habitats. Since this is a guided tour, we can ask our Educator staff team all of the questions we may have along the way. We'll meet out front of the National Aviary and head in together for a guided tour led by one of their educator staff. Along the way, we'll explore the different ecosystems and habitats represented throughout the Aviary, see stunning live birds up close, and have plenty of opportunity to ask all of our burning bird questions! 🐦 After the tour, we have something really special in store: a private educational show all about raptors! We'll learn about Pennsylvania's birds of prey, including eagles, owls, hawks, and falcons, and get an up-close meet and greet with one of the Aviary's very own Ambassador Animal raptors. 🦅 Once the guided portion wraps up, you're welcome to stay and explore the Aviary on your own for as long as you'd like! Whether you're a lifelong bird lover or just curious, all are welcome! 💌 Registered participants will receive an email with meeting location, suggested gear, and other pertinent info before the event.
