About the Adventure

Activity Level: Moderate Location: Friendship Hill, Point Marion, PA Guide: Abby Kick off 2026 with fresh air, movement, and a dose of history on our First Day Hike at Friendship Hill. Once the home of Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin, this 675-acre National Historic Landmark overlooks the Monongahela River and is filled with rich stories, historic homesites, and quiet remnants of early residents. We’ll explore 4.8 miles of rolling fields, forested trails, and peaceful hillsides surrounding the estate. Our route passes the Thomas Clare Cemetery before descending toward the river. From there, we’ll follow the water’s edge to Gray’s Landing Pool, the former stone masonry dam system that once created an upstream navigation pool. The return trail leads us up wooden hillside steps and past the historic brick Gallatin House, where we’ll pause to take in the beautiful overlook from the backyard. It’s the perfect way to start the new year grounded, refreshed, and connected—with nature, with history, and with one another. Distance: 4.8 miles Elevation: 380 feet Event details, including meeting location, suggested gear, and other pertinent info will be sent via email to registered participants.
