About the Adventure

Activity Level 2: Moderate Location: Roaring Run Natural Area, Somerset Guides: Lindsay, Megan, Meisha Let's head up to Laurel Ridge and take in the beautiful, wintery woods with a 3.5 mile snowshoe along the scenic trails in Roaring Run Natural Area. The first mile takes us along the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. We'll wind through large stands of conifers as we snowshoe along the western slope of Laurel Ridge. This beautiful, snowy adventure is sure to leave you feeling that wonderful blend of vitality, awe, and peace. Total distance is 3.5 miles. Elevation gain is approximately 415 feet. You are welcome to bring your own snowshoes if you have them. Snowshoes needed? You can add a rental pair during registration. You can also rent a pair through Thrifty in Donegal on your way up the hill. Snowshoe rentals cost between $15-$20. Located in southeastern Westmoreland County, this 3,500-acre area encompasses the major portion of the Roaring Run watershed on the west slope of Laurel Ridge. This natural area is an example of a complete forested mountain watershed.
