About the Adventure

Activity Level 1: Easy Location: Wingfield Pines Conservation Area, Upper St. Clair, PA Guide: Abby Each month, the Women's Adventure Club offers a gentle, relaxed hike. We keep these hikes under three miles with minimal elevation gain and a slower, more relaxed pace. These hikes are for women who are interested in spending time in nature without covering a lot of ground. Maybe you're new to hiking, recovering from an injury, or just wanting to take it easy. This monthly hiking series is for you! For this relaxed hike, feel free to bring your binoculars, birding apps, tree identification apps, and keen eyes for small creatures! We'll be exploring Wingfield Pines Conservation Area, which was created to restore a natural area affected by abandoned mine drainage leaching into Chartiers Creek. On our hike, we can see iron-polluted water from the abandoned mine becoming oxidized and filtering through a series of wetlands. This space also provides a safe haven for many types of birds, aquatic creatures, and other animals to discover in the wetland and grassy areas. Total hiking distance: 2.3 miles Total elevation gain: 100 feet 💌 Registered participants will receive an email with meeting location, suggested gear, and other pertinent info before the event.
