About the Adventure

Activity Level 3: Vigorous (distance and time on trail) Location: Saylor Park, Josephine, PA Guide: Abby With Halloween right around the corner, it only seems appropriate to visit the Ghost Town Trail. The Ghost Town Trail is a 46 mile rail trail across two counties that runs along Blacklick Creek. It was formerly part of the Ebensburg & Black Lick Railroad Company lines, and now has relics of the railroad company and the many towns that ran along the length of the railroads right along the trail. For this adventure, we’ll start at Saylor Park in Josephine, PA and weave along Blacklick Creek, crossing Laurel Run, spotting abandoned coal cars reclaimed by the woods. The trail is lined with wildflowers in some areas, as well as some limestone walls, open patches of ferns, and more. Since this is a rail trail, our elevation is very gradual and the trail is a mix of dirt and crushed stone. That makes it an ideal trail to wander while listening to the creek and spotting trail relics here and there. Total distance: 11 miles (~5.5 out and back) Total elevation: 505 feet 💌 Registered participants will receive an email with meeting location, suggested gear, and other pertinent info before the event.
