Activity Level 1: Easy Location: Southside Riverfront Park, Pittsburgh Guide: Stephen, Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy Naturalist Educator + WAC Guide Abby to join As winter loosens its grip and spring begins to stir, Pittsburgh's rivers become a stage for one of nature's most remarkable shows: the annual migration of waterfowl. Birds are often the first wildlife to signal the changing season, and our three rivers offer a front-row seat. Join Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy Naturalist Educator Stephen Bucklin for a guided evening hike along the riverfront, where we'll scan the water for migrating ducks, geese, and other species that depend on this unique corridor of river and forest. Along the way, Stephen will share what makes this habitat so special and how to read the landscape the way a birder does. No experience needed. We'll cover the basics of birding together, and binoculars are available to borrow. Our route follows a mix of paved, gravel, and turf trails for approximately 1 to 1.5 miles. Highlights may include a walk beneath the Highland Park Bridge and out to the dam - prime spots for spotting waterfowl in their element.
